Ambassador's welcoming speech at the Russian Medical Universities' Convocation 2017 (National University of Malaysia, August 27, 2017)
Dear Dr. Iliana Mohamad, leader of Volgograd State Medical University Alumni,
Honorable Teoh Seng Lee, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Penang,
Dear graduates of Russian Medical Universities,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As many of you have studied in Russia and know the Russian language I would like to greet you also in Russian:
Здравствуйте, дорогие друзья!
It is a great pleasure to attend Convocation of Russian Medical Universities 2017 and extend my most sincere congratulations to the graduates of Russian higher education institutions. Well done! You have worked very hard!
This year marks a significant milestone in Russian-Malaysian relations as we celebrate 50th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. I am glad to say that our half a century long partnership rests on a solid foundation of traditional friendship and mutual respect, and keeps growing in many areas for the benefit of our two nations. We enjoy robust political and diplomatic interaction, increasing trade and economic cooperation, strong cultural ties and intensive people-to-people contacts.
Bilateral educational exchanges, of course, are one of the most valuable assets for both of our nations. Today Malaysia holds the absolute first place among South-East Asia countries by the number of students studying in Russia. There are about three thousands of them, pursuing their educational programs in various regions and cities of our country.
Besides, Russian Government provides free scholarships to Malaysian citizens to study in Russia. This year ten young people from Malaysia received Russian Government’s scholarships to obtain bachelor and master degrees in Russian universities.
Actually, the major part of Malaysian students, coming to study in Russia, joins medical universities. It is no secret that Russian higher education institutions provide high-class and cutting edge training in medical professions. Most renowned among them are Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, as well as medical universities of Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod and Kursk. Diplomas of these five educational organisations are recognized in Malaysia, and highly valued all over the World.
Today Russia has a well established network of educational institutions that have all necessary resources to train foreign students not only in medical specialties, but in engineering, machinery, aircraft production, as well as oil and gas industry. In case you consider obtaining second higher education, do think of visiting Russia again.
Russia has always been putting a top priority to provide its educational services to our foreign partners, including Malaysia. We consider educational exchanges even more important, as they give great and unique opportunity for the young people of Malaysia to receive an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Russian culture, history, modern life, in combination with high-quality education and expertise.
I would like to use this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to Honorable Teoh Seng Lee for his significant contribution to the development of the educational cooperation between Russia and Malaysia.
Dear graduates,
As you successfully completed your professional training in Russia, I would like to wish you good luck and every success in your future career in the sphere of public health of Malaysia.
We hope that you will become active members of Malaysian Alumni of Russian universities group and contribute to its important mission of promoting friendly Russian-Malaysian relations. And Russian medical education as well!
Every November you are welcome to the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Kuala Lumpur for the Russian Universities Alumni Night, where you will have an opportunity to meet each other, revive old ties, establish new acquaintances, and enjoy the taste of “chai” and “pirozhki”.
Thank you for your attention.
